The city of Salalah in southern Oman sits at the edge of the Arabian Sea, where monsoon mists roll in from the Indian Ocean and create a unique microclimate unlike anywhere else in the region. It is here — and only here — that the Boswellia sacra tree thrives in its original, wild form, producing a resin of exceptional purity and potency.
Frankincense is also cultivated in India and Ethiopia (where the Catholic Church has historically maintained large plantations), but connoisseurs and researchers consistently recognize Omani Boswellia sacra as the gold standard. The resin is harvested by hand: skilled local tappers make careful incisions in the bark, allow the milky sap to slowly crystallize in the dry mountain air, and collect the hardened tears of resin weeks later.
